The Best Countries for Dutch Speakers Who Want to Work Abroad

If you speak Dutch, you have one of the most useful languages for working abroad, and most people who have it don't know that.

Why Dutch is in demand. Companies selling to the Netherlands and Belgium want to serve those customers in Dutch. But their service and sales teams often sit in Southern Europe, where costs are lower and the big multilingual hubs are. Very few Dutch speakers live in Athens or Lisbon, so employers hire from abroad and often help you move. That's the whole reason these roles exist, and why the support that comes with them can be generous.

Flemish counts. If you're from Belgium and speak Flemish, these roles are usually open to you too. Customers from Belgium are part of the reason they exist. If a role specifically wants Netherlands Dutch, the role page says so.

Greece: the sales country. Most Dutch-speaking roles in Greece are in Athens, and many are sales roles rather than pure support: helping businesses advertise online, selling tech products, or booking meetings for a sales team. If you like talking people into things and want bonuses tied to results, this is where to look. Several roles start on-site and move to hybrid after training, and relocation packages are common: flights, a few weeks of paid accommodation on arrival and help finding a flat.

Portugal: the widest choice. Lisbon has the broadest mix: customer service, technical support, content moderation and even in-house recruiter jobs, with some roles in Porto as well. Lisbon has a big international crowd of people who moved for exactly this kind of job, so it's an easy place to arrive alone. Some employers offer a room in a shared apartment for your first year, with the rent taken from your salary, which takes the hardest part of the move off your plate.

Spain and Cyprus: fewer, but worth watching. Spain has occasional Dutch-speaking roles on the Costa del Sol, and Cyprus has them in Larnaca. There are fewer of them, but they come up regularly, and Cyprus in particular tends to have more senior and specialist roles.

How to choose. Pick the job first, the country second. A role you'd actually enjoy, in a team that trains you well, matters more than the city. Then look at what's covered: flights, temporary housing and help with paperwork make the first month far easier. If you're torn between two, message us and we'll tell you honestly how the roles compare.

You'll find every open Dutch-speaking role below, updated every week. You don't need to speak Greek or Portuguese for any of them. You work in Dutch with customers and in English with your team.
